Legal Grad Track

Legal Grad Track is an annual study of UK students who intend to pursue a career in law. The study comprises online interviews with more than a thousand students.

The study is designed to provide law firms with an accurate profile of the graduates who will be applying for training contracts now and in the next three years. Students are interviewed about spontaneous awareness of law firm brands, favourability, attitudes towards marketing and communication and motivational factors behind their law firm choices.

In addition, Legal Grad Track now profiles student types: through robust cluster analysis we are able to describe the type of student that will be most attracted to a particular firm.

Legal Grad Track can help HR teams to discover:

  • Whether their recruitment techniques are favoured by the type of student they hope to attract

  • Which universities tend to turn out the type of students that best ‘fit’ their firm

  • Tipping points for applicants: at what stage do they decide to favour a firm or drop it from their consideration list, and why

  • The characteristics and aspirations of students that are most likely to apply to their firm: importance of CSR/ethnic diversity; whether they aspire to be a partner; attractiveness of international practice; and the value of salary over job security

The survey includes students from top universities including Cambridge, Oxford, London School of Economics, Nottingham and University College London.

Legal Grad Track is presented as a comprehensive and cost-effective report. Upon request, we can also provide data specific to a firm including verbatim quotes about recruitment techniques, marketing and communications and reasons for favourability or loss of favour with a firm.
