Chris is Senior Partner of Pinsent Masons, having initially been elected to that role in July 2005. As Senior Partner, Chris has ultimate executive responsibility for the leadership and management of Pinsent Masons. His main focus is on strategy, international development and client relationships. He chairs the firm's Board and the partnership appointment and remuneration committee. He was principal sponsor and advocate for Pinsent Masons core values programme, launched in 2006 and sponsors the firm's active Corporate Responsibility programme, called "Starfish".
In 2010, at the invitation of the Chief Executive of The Law Society in England & Wales, Chris became one of four law firm representatives on the Professional and Business Services Group. This Group works independently of, but closely with, the UK Government in relation to matters of competitiveness and the overall contribution of the professional and business services sector to the UK economy.
Chris was educated at Magdalen College School, Oxford, then at Jesus College, Cambridge where he graduated with a MA (Hons) in Law. He joined Biddle & Co, a City of London law firm, in 1984. Biddle & Co merged into what is now Pinsent Masons in 1990.
Within Pinsent Masons, Chris held a number of key management posts prior to his appointment as Senior Partner, including leadership of the firm's Employment, Pensions and Tax Group, Sector Head for the Financial Services Sector and Non-Executive Partner.
Prior to becoming Senior Partner, which is a full-time role, Chris' practice was as a leading pensions lawyer, advising many of the firm's principal corporate and trustee clients on issues relating to company pension funds and other pensions-related concerns.
Whilst Senior Partner, Chris has led the creation and implementation of a new vision and strategy for the firm, revised and updated the firm's constitution and management structure and devised and implemented a completely new profit sharing system for partners, replacing the modified lockstep system. He has also overseen the launch of new offices in Dubai and Singapore, and the creation of a unique alliance with the Beijing Hesen law firm in China. Most recently he led the Pinsent Masons team in merger negotiations with national law firm McGrigors, now successfully agreed, and is closely involved in the planned opening of new offices in Germany and France during 2012.
