The Acritas UK Law Firm Brand Index 2016

Acritas UK Law Firm Brand Index reveals the UK’s strongest legal brands

Eversheds tops the Brand Index, with female buyers particularly drawn to the firm. DLA Piper is this year’s rising star, increasing four places into second place. Pinsent Masons take third place.

Lisa Hart Shepherd, CEO, Acritas, said: “The average client works with some 20 law firms and is regularly marketed to by many more. With a legal market that is fragmented, dynamic and constantly changing law firms that are top of mind for positive reasons are more likely to win work. Successful brands cut the noise and let the market know who they are.

“The Acritas UK Law Firm Brand Index, now in its fifth year, is the definitive guide to which UK legal brands are strongest in the eyes of buyers.”

*Please note on Febuary 22, 2016, Wragge Lawrence Graham & Co combined with Gowlings. For the purposes of this index, Wragge Lawrence Graham & Co is analyzed independently of Gowlings because the data was collected before the combination.

The Sharplegal survey, conducted annually amongst 2,300 senior buyers of legal services from across the globe, tracks how legal buyers select law firms and highlights those law firms winning, and losing, brand equity.

The Acritas UK Law Firm Brand Index tracks six measures – top of mind awareness, favorability, consideration for top-level litigation, consideration for top-level M&A, most used for high value work by UK buyers, and most used for high value UK work by overseas buyers. Firms are awarded between one and five points for each respondent mention on each measure depending on whether the firm is mentioned first, second, third etc. The total score is the combination of the points from all mentions on all measures. The highest ranked firm sets the Index at 100 points and all other firms are measured against that benchmark.

Lisa said: “Eversheds has topped the Acritas UK Law Firm Brand Index for three of the past four years. Its focus on delivering increasingly higher level legal work, and its innovative pricing models has enormous appeal, particularly among female clients that, our research suggests, are generally more cost conscious.”

Commenting on DLA Piper’s impressive performance Lisa said: “The firm’s broad global platform, the breadth of its practice and its genuine local knowledge across multiple jurisdictions resonates with the largest multinationals.”
